The Athens Area Paine College Alumni Club presents “Joe Turner's Come and Gone" directed by N.L. Starr and written by two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning African American playwright August Wilson. Joe Turner’s Come and Gone is the second play in August Wilson’s The Century Cycle. This series captures the struggles and lives of African Americans throughout the 20th century. Set in the 1910s, Joe Turner’s Come and Gone follows the lives of several freed former enslaved African Americans in the North, exploring their experiences with racism and discrimination.
